I think Faust came out and said that SFS wasn't about any particular network execs per se, but was highly influenced by "exec notes" on past shows... which is probably why it struck a chord with anyone whose ever done any kind of artistic/design work before.

Actually I found the dialogues follow good beat practice. My guess is that they follow the same writing diciplines used by a lot of TV shows in general, as well as most of pixar's stories. Beats generally frown on filling empty moments with words, relying instead on budgeting every line with a certain direction or emotional response by the characters.

MLP does a good job of taking a moment to smell the roses - they set up the situations in the first act of the show by introducing each of the character's motivations and progressing their actions later into what follows. The Cutie Mark Crusaders aren't popular, but episode 17 is very effective at conveying this.

No one is going to sugarcoat the first episode - it's a necessary evil that they needed an easy, fast way to convey the series premise. But the show generally does get better.

I do get bothered when people rag on CMC's recent episode. Specifically when they call it slow paced up until the forest act. I don't, but that's perhaps because I found the jokes filled in between funny and therefore the pace felt just fine.

But I understand a lot of people having a problem with the characters. The show really was a Parents episode, in that you'd have to appreciate the representation of taking care of a group of kids all at once. Without a life experience like that, the jokes might be less salient.

In other words, I respect the opinion of the people who didn't like the episode, but I don't think it's fair to paint it with a declaration of it being bad, as many have. Just . . . a different episode.

Now I love the show and everything pony, but I can't help but feel that part of the appeal to the older fanbase is that the show is considered so taboo to watch. I feel some people might just be watching it (whether they know it or not) to be different from or defiant to social standards.

People kept talking about the grand Galloping Gala being the most possible end of the first season.

So the Gala is a colossal sucess and we get to see how Twilight and company are having the best day ever.

- Pinkie Pie manages to play, enjoy and beat all games available, all at the same time. Don't ask how, she's Pinkie Pie.

- Applejack gets to sell her apples and apple tools. She makes 1/3 more of the money she expected to, AND gets preorders for more apples and apple products. New roof, plow and hip, here we go...

- Fluttershy visits the royal gardens and is overwelmed with it's beauty. Yes, there ARE humming and buzzing birds after all, and they were the most poilte and educated birds ever.

- Rainbow Dash is allowed to make a small performance to open the WonderBolt's show. After the show ends, she is announced as the new reserve member of the WonderBolts, RainbowDash is stuck saying "ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh" until somebody slaps her in the back of her head.

- Rarity discovers Celestia never had a nephew, but the fame she earned through Hoity Toty scores her a small (but awesome) number of suitors. For the first time ever, she stops and considerates people for what they are instead of for what she wishes them to be.

- Twilight enjoyes probably what's her first whole day of fun, but also get to know other interesting people, like a Zebra diplomat from Zecora's homeland. Many questions are answered, part of Zecora's past is explained.

-To his surprise, Spike meets a female dragon, who's the secretary of the Zebra diplomat.Both kids discretely leave to exchange tales, brag about their deeds and badmouth their bosses. They laugh a lot.

The day is almost over and everyone gets together to exchange their personal experiences. Twilight makes a little stop to scold Rainbow Dash for not performing an adequate cloud clearing job, as she notices the evening is getting cloudier and cloudier and she doesn't wants rain on her parade. Celestia prepares herself to close the Gala with a discurse and a fireworks show, when suddenly the clouds gets darker and thicker, until they fire a black lighting that impacts Celestia and makes her explode, turning her into a myriad of sparkling lights. Everyone gets frozen in horror and the background music stops playing.

Celestia's light remains are surrounded by black flames and then consumed on a huge pillar of darkness that leaves Equestria and flies into the setting sun. For a moment, everyone can see the faint image of Celestia being engraved into the sun before it dissapears behind the mountains and the night fall all over Equestria. A sinester, yet familiar laugh resonates everywhere...

The clouds swirl and dash towards Celestia's throne, and slowly turn into Night Mare Moon, who is still laughing like a madmare. Twilight awakens in a dark prison made of obsidian. Nobody else is there, and she quickly realizes she was abandoned in there to die of thirst or starvation. Before she falls in desperation, she hears the faint sound of somebody crying: then she notices that someone else is locked in there with her.
Her eyes open with surprise and then with horror when she recognizes the badly beaten up body of the hurt, and barely alive... Princess Luna.
Screen fades to black, a faint message of "To be continued on season 2" appears while NMM's laughter resonates, and then the screen fades back to black.

Has there been any word on whether we get mm and squeak back? Last I knew, they're banished until the March 13th (known to me as the day after my birthday, but that's not significant)

For what it's worth, someone may have shot an email off making an argument that we just need a fair chance at making a thread that follow the rules of the board, and the mods decided to follow-up by taking a stronger but more neutrally aligned stance on the content of posts.

Going forward, I suggest that we talk more about ponies and less about moderator policies. What happened wasn't fair in the broadest sense, but it's history.

I knew I'd gotten rusty, it's been several years since I I've written anything, so it's not surprising I'd forget little details, like mentioning the main character is afraid of heights. As for the "photo negative" effect, that's just how I have my computer set up. As you said, it's a lot easier on the eyes, though I made sure to up the contrast this time around. Not everyone calibrates their monitors, and even those who do often set them up to their own preferences rather than to any standard(I know I do this).
