It just doesn't. RPGs have certain elements, and the more of them they have, the more RPGish they are. MLP became a hit because it was unexpected for a girl focus cartoon to be actuality written ok/good and it took off. For the last four months MLP has always had two or more threads on /co/'s front page. People were fine with in at first but after a month people were ready for it to leave, and thats when all this drama stared up. And both camps got OUT OF CONTROL. MLP Haters would crash threads and tell them to cut it out. MLP lovers would make multiple threads and for every one that got haters on it, instead of moving on, they made new threads further agitating MLP haters and they moved to worse tactics such as guro ect.
Funny enough I shocked it was yesterday morning when it got so out of hand that we had points of NINE MLP threads up. The rules about MLP will probably only last till mods/moot find a way to mock the board with it and then things will be back to normal.

Generalyl speaking, the first two episodes are more intro-to-the-series material and not characteristic of teh rest of the series. Apple Buck season is a pretty good episode, as is Winter Wrap-up. It's also possible that it's not your series, which is fair enough.

The fact that Murhpy couldn't be with his wife, after his augmentation because people considered him a product and not human. He was human all along, His emotions brought forth conflicting between that of his primary directives, even that of protecting his friend when told not to.

Robocop is deep, made me tear up.

Apple Buck Season is a pretty good episode, because while there is exposition and a set-up, you get a good sense of Apple Jack's situation from the opener. The immediate effect is pronounced, followed by another setup. If you're a writer and you follow beats, the show offers a lot of structure you can use to learn from, so it makes a good study source, and Apple Buck Season as well as Stare Master (Watch the conversation between Rarity and Fluttershy, and then later between Twilight Sparkle and Fluttershy). This episode also provides some sense of danger, given the antagonist they meet.

Swarm of the Century offers some awesome visuals that provide watchers with variety, and a lot of it is comically satisfying. Pinkie is amazing in this episode, even if she channels an old story stand-by, and the pay-off is worth it.

These are just some random thoughts. Anyone else have a few?

I don't see why everyone immediately recommends Applebuck Season as a good starter honestly. It's a good episode but I wouldn't rank it very high. Me? I started with Griffon the Brush-Off, back around the time most bronies were eagerly waiting for the slumber party episode (can't remember what it's called) and I was hooked within five minutes.

I also see a lot of people say that Bridle Gossip is a bad starter and I could not disagree more. I don't recommend it to everyone, however; I save it for those that are particularly skeptical of the show. I've recommended it to four or five skeptics and they were all impressed.

In the last week there appears to have been an influx of fans, and with that comes new content. A lot of people who have followed the series from the start are probably eager to accept new members to the fandom, which has caused a sudden explosion of interest.

The series is also undeniably cutsie, which can put off some people, but perhaps inspire a different channel of enjoyment from others. As a result you end up with a rabid fanbase of newponies which are whipping up the oldponies.

That's my best explanation of it.

Most of the threads to date have been a combination of
-speculation on the ponyverse, how it all fits together behind the scenes of the show. Origin stories and fridge logic

-Shipping discussion, I honestly don't care for it but a lot of talk goes into the subtle relationship dynamics of the show and speculating on how some characters might hook up given what we know.

-fanart requests or discussion

-fanfic requests or discussion (you might turn your nose up, but we have attracted some rather serious writers)

-episode discussion and speculation. Comparisons between episodes, teir lists ect.

-and more recently, trying to deal with trolls coming in and bitching us out constantly. As well as various internal turmoils and pony politics

Because I've watch the show and while it is ok entertainment to pass the time I (and just about everyone i've shown the show too) cannot understand how people can get this passionate about the show. There are many better cartoons out there. Yet this one became so out of control on 4chan. It just makes me ask why?

Honestly? I think people on the internet are slowly becoming more exaggerated and flippant. Why type something with the boring mindset of "I like this show" when you can instead excitedly think "OMIGAWD THIS SHOW IS AWESOME!1" and have other people respond with the same sort of intensity?

Also, it's a lot easier on the brain to look at things in absolutes. Take Robocop's initial post and the responses. Both sides were "sincere", but it's a mockery of a conversation. Once both sides got it in their heads that there was something.. legitimate? being asked, people turned on their empathy sensors and started thinking again.

So to tangent this back: people are overly passionate because they can be. It's the internet. You can get away with shit like that.
