I feel like this episode had a couple things against it. First, it's an episode focusing on background characters. The most interesting characters tend to be the main ones, so just like any show these episodes usually aren't as engaging. A good example would be like the episodes of House that don't focus around House.The second thing is this episode has to live up to last week's, which I feel was all around hailed as a great one.Finally, there was no Pinky Pie, Rainbow Dash, Spike, or Applejack. That's most of the main cast.

Anyone else disturbed that Rarity has a sister? After Suited For Success I imagined Rarity to be mid-30s, while the other ponies are early to mid-20s. The fact she has a very young kid sister seems weird to me now. I'm guess Sweetie was born after Rarity was already an adult, but still why has it taken SEVENTEEN episodes to mention the basic fact she has a sister? You'd think before she climbed the mountain to fight the dragon a concern would be finding someone to watch her sister for her, but no, it never came up.

There were a lot of things in Applebuck Season that bothered me. I thought it didn't make sense that AJ didn't know there was a huge portion still left at the end of the episode. It's her farm, why wouldn't she know the size of it? I also thought it was uncharacteristic of Fluttershy to interrupt Twilight in the middle of her speech. I didn't like the part where AJ was constantly mishearing ponies and doing things that didn't make sense. It wasn't very believable to me that she would think dirt and worms could be ingredients in anything. I did have a couple laughs, but I don't like it as much as most bronies do. It's not a bad episode, just not one I'm particularly fond of.I don't find the CMC annoying. I think that's a very personal thing. Just because something is annoying to you doesn't make it annoying to everypony. This episode showed how the CMC act and gave us a good deal of Fluttershy awesomeness. I really enjoyed it.

I personally loved this episode. The cuties are adorable, Fluttershy is adorable, we got a musical number and new background information. I enjoyed it quite a bit regardless of what others say.The only thing I felt was bad was the pacing. I felt like too much time was spent hanging around Rarity's shop to set up the premise, and the time in Fluttershy's house before bedtime dragged on a little too long as well (but the hammer joke was incredible, and bedtime went very well). Likewise, the whole bit in the Everfree felt a little rushed to me. "Oh no, Twilight! OH NO COCKATRICE. Oh we're okay now."So I would've sped up the opening premise and lengthened out the Everfree a bit, to help build on some tension. Maybe pad the final showdown with the cockatrice about ten seconds for the sake of drama (awesome, but over so quick!).So I did have those problems with it. But I still enjoyed the episode and it made me laugh a few times. Happy End.Also, man, I'm gonna need to get a shot of that snail crawling over Twilight once we start capping images. I thought that part was actually creepy.

The basilisk and the cockatrice are pretty similar in appearance though, which would make using one after this ep pretty dull. I knew whatever episode had the misfortune of following Sonic Rainboom was going to get panned by the fandom no matter how good or bad it was.The fact that half the main cast was absent probably hurt this one in terms of popularity too.But personally, I thought it was great. About time we got a real Fluttershy episode (Dragonshy doesn't count. It's as much an episode for the whole crew as it is for her.)
