02/25/11(Fri)12:36 No.23797853>>23797415 But the thing is that cutie marks are magical signs which gauge the activity, ability or other specialty that separates a pony from other ponies, and as CotC explains: Special Talent precedes the cutie mark, or that the cutie mark appears only when a ponies true potential is found. That means that Boxxy Brown in FPK is the best damn delivery pony in Equestria.
The question remains that are all ponies happy with their special talent? As far as the show has shown all ponies seem content with their part in life. It would be pretty convenient if a magical marker appeared on your ass telling you "YOU ARE A GREAT COOK" or "YOU ARE GREAT WITH KIDS", but also on the other hand your destiny has been more or less predetermined. You wanted to be a rock star? Sorry, you've got an amplifier on your ass, get to work backstage. Of course ponies have multiple abilities, but the thing on your ass is what you really are the best at. At the end of the day though aren't ponies (people) the happiest doing what they are good at or what they enjoy?
It's also pretty interesting how some cutie marks leave a very open interpretation of a pony's special talent. A good example is the difference between Trixie and Twilight. Twi's special talent is magic universally, where as Trixies special ability was show magic, magic used to amaze and entertain people. Does that mean there are ponies whose special talent is for example healing magic? Destructive magic? Meta-magic?
Seeing that we have Snails, whose special ability is being slow, we might at some point see a pony whose special talent is being a genius. While Twilight is clearly incredibly bright and a hardworker, she has been shown to be as fallacious as a regular pony, as she seems to (rarely) have a hard time understanding things outside of magic.
tl;dr Overall I think it's interesting how deterministic place Equestria is, and not just with cutie marks. |
