I am pleased to say that after I made revisions to the Writepony Awards, I've started to receive nomination entries! Hope they keep coming in, and thanks to you who've voted so far! Oh, and if anypony has a name for the whole thing that sounds less obnoxious than "Writepony Awards", please let me know.

Okay, because of all the complaints I've received about this, I'm simplifying it to see if anypony will become more interested in it. I'm destroying half of the categories, and replacing some of them. The categories in contention will now be:

Best Unfinished Story
Best Short Story

I'm considering writing a fan-fic. My first ever Fan-Fic infact. The premise is that Gilda and Trixie each team up with a human (the only one in the story) and go on D&D esque adventures, like saving a merchant pony and his daughter from Goblins and exploring an old ruin for treasure. Why? Because adventure and friendship. To what end? So Trixie can become a world famous wizard again with some true stories to back up her fame, and so Gilda can fell good enough about herself so she can go back and make amends with Dash and Ponyville.

Tell me /co/, would you read it? Especially if it was centered around Gilda and Trixies Character development? The human is just there to be a catalyst for the whole thing.

I think that instead of a writefag Oscars, people should designate another day, like the friend-off, where you post your favorite piece of artwork or story, and leave them a comment on the thread, or the blog, or preferably both.

And oscar is not what most writefags (fanfiction is for the pure fun of it), but COMMENTS are what we all crave. Signals that putting it down on the written word paid off.

As such, you get LOST GOLD points for posting comments for a story that perhaps is a little more obscure, bringing it back to attention.


Oh yeah, apply like all of this to the drawfags, too. Post favorite lost fan art and comment on it. Let them know the piece made it to a hard drive somewhere.

one of the main goals of that place is to basically be /ic/ but for fics. very critical but very constructive. we're hoping we'll trim the number of fics being produced (not that they're all bad, it's just that some authors should be a little more critical of their stuff before posting it, there's a little too much) and make sure that all authors are immensely proud of their work, as well as producing very good content.

The idea of a sequel popped into my head because I keep getting into discussions on if immortality (or in this case, really long life) was overall a bad thing or not. Most people think it is, and I thought I should write a fic that would explore why it's not. Spike's Welcome Home Going Away Party is a good set-up for such a fic.

If you'd like to know where we are drawing a line, it's that the Fanfiction Oscars are a competition. Most are opposed to turning their for-fun projects into something meant to compete against others in a voting/popularity tournament.

What is NOT being argued about is attention. Attention like praise (or even constructive criticism) is great and adored and it is the blood that runs through my fanfiction veins. We encourage that.

We want to be lifted up without the thought of someone else NOT succeeding because of us, in other words. I don't want my Paradise or Ponies Discover /Co/ (why'd I never get that title fixed?) knocking out a Best Drama or Comedy from HFPS or Squeaks or Pacce.

Or for that matter, Vice Versa, I can pretty much assure you that one of the two works I mentioned wouldn't beat out a certain other work. But does it being more popular and maybe better mean either work isn't deserving of attention? No. Not at all.

Health Ledger was passed over for an Oscar for playing the Joker, after all, and he deserved something for the most menacing preformance of a lifetime.

Seriously, I think they have a law to redub all the foreign movies, even though there's already a french dub, so they can use all the francisation for english term. Even movies title are translated, for example "Scary movie" keep it's name in french and is called "film de peur" in Quebec.
So yeah, if the ponies have a meaningful name, I wouldn't be surprised if they translate it, just so the little girl don't learn english words or something.
