Eh, most of any fandom's fan-fiction and fan-art is shit. That's because it's fan-fiction and fan-art. They aren't professionals; they're fans.

And large portions of it are going to be romance and fap-fic related. That's for a variety of reasons, but it really just boils down to the fact that people like that sort of thing. They like stories about love and sex. They're easy to understand, and they're relatively easy to write (not easy to write _well_, however).

Personally, I'm curious about the sex of the writeponies out there. Historically, the vast majority of fan-fiction has been written by women, but the MLP phenomenon on the internet seems to be largely male.

Anyways, if you don't like it, just ignore it. I mean, I only read fan-fiction very sparingly (as far as MLP goes, I think I've read the Spike story posted last night, "The Ponies Meet /co," and a weird/strangely interesting Applejack/Mac story on EqD. It's not really my thing. But I don't freak out about people writing it.
