I don't really see people hating on Applejack. Rainbow Dash on the other hand is getting more hate than Gilda now. Gilda actually stole away some of Rainbow Dash's fanbase which I find hilarious.

Dash is losing popularity because she doesn't fit a certain criteria like the others do. Fans that like beta characters like Fluttershy. Fans that like bubbly and happy-go-lucky characters like Pinkie Pie. Fans that like super-alpha characters like Gilda and Trixie. Etc.

Rainbow Dash doesn't really have a set feature anymore. She was sort of alpha like Gilda at first, but now she seems terribly insecure which cripples her in that regard. She picks on her friends a lot which pisses off the fans of other characters. She has been known to cheat as well to get her way, leaving a sour taste in some peoples mouths.

She still remains the most arguably popular pony, but she takes serious lumps from those that do not like her, myself included.

Dear Hasbro,

I am a fan of the show My Little Pony: Friendship is magic. I recognize that I am significantly out of the targeted demographic for the show (I am a man in my early 20's), and I believe that stands as a testament to the show's ability to capture and entertain viewers of all ages and genders.

I even have bought some of the toys, an action that I recognize would serve to ridicule many, but I do so because I enjoy the depth of personality that the characters have.

This depth of personality, however, serves to fuel my complaint about this particular line of figures. They are very obviously recolors of the characters on the show, and serve to merely cash in on the commercial aspect of the show, which its director, Lauren Faust, has made clear that she wishes to avoid.

The show is terrific, and I frankly believe that it deserves better.

Guys in regards to writing hasbro "complaints"

please be civil and make the simple suggestion of making toys of the background ponies. Some points you could make

-they already have vectors
-they're featured in almost every episode of the show as well as the main cast
-they could be expanded on in the show in the future to increase sales of the toys without conflicting the other characters

Also, keep in mind we can't call them by their names so refer to them by cutie marks and colors. Sadly we will lose our unique names for them but at least the toys will fit better.

My Review of the show:

Part 1

The main characters of the show are a variety of anthropomorphized ponies. The difference in design mostly consists of varying colors so that the toys of the main characters can all use the same form factor. Another method employed to safe money is the uniform color fill. So like in most cartoons today there are no shades to be found.

The main theme of the show is the promotion of virtue ethics. This is achieved by equipping each pony with a specific positive characteristic. When these character traits are combined they unleash an ultimate force. The obvious implication seems to be that moral agents must possess all the positive features in order to be perfect. This interpretation is supported by the fact that each individual pony is flawed because it lacks a skill another pony possesses.

At the end of each episode Twilight Sparkle reports to her princess about what she learned about friendship. The second main theme of the show therefore seems to be the acquisition of social competence which is linked with the virtue ethics. It is highlighted that in order to function socially every pony has to sacrifice or transform parts of their personality because in their current state they are too extreme. The character virtues must be restrained, as like achieving a middle point between two extreme options. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash for instance are each at the extreme ends of the same spectrum. The show tries to convince us that in order to realize social stability they must be more moderate.

It is unclear what form of government the show promotes. It is explained that all ponies submit themselves to the supreme fiat of royalty. But it is never explored if the ponies still are free to govern their internal affairs or if there is a supervisory body so that the princess can not violate basic pony rights.

Part 2

The authenticity of the show is undermined, however, because coincidentally the consequences of the ponies actions are always positive when they seek to conform to the show's philosophy and always negative when their actions deviate from the previously explained middle ground of virtues. This is unrealistic because in the real world one often has to choose between one's principles and a favored outcome. "My little Pony" entirely ignores this conflict and instead tries to portray the illusion that the moral agent will always be rewarded when he possesses certain virtues. The question if these virtues should be uphold even if this may result in bad consequences is never addressed.

Another problem with the show is it's anti-intellectualism. It is often hinted at that it is better to simply believe a pleasant falsehood then to accept a harsh reality.

The show, at times, also contains mixed messages. In one episode the ponies are afraid of a Zebra because it is different than they are. At the end it turns out that their fears were irrational and that they should be willing to accept other people and not discriminate against them despite their differences. In another episode, however, Pinkie Pie has a grudge against the griffin Helga. Helga is a punk who rejects to adopt the social norms of the pony society. Pinkie Pie then starts to publicly mock and humiliate Helga who is ultimately shunned and excluded from the in-group. All this is shown in a positive light which seems to imply that it is not wrong to commit hate crimes against unpleasant individuals.

If the simplistic and questionable moral compass, the one dimensional characters and the unrealistic setting doesn't bother you the show can be quite entertaining for a while. But after a few episodes the slapstick and comedic relief tends to be just as repetitive as the main theme of the show itself, which I explored in my first two posts.

As a long time MLP fan I am disappointed that instead of using the goodwill and intellectual value generated by "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" animation series currently airing on the Hub channel Hasbro continues to release second-rate, derivative recolours of the main cast. The reason I have yet to purchase the toys or figurines produced by Hasbro for myself or my daughter is because the toys simply do not resemble the characters of the animation series, which thanks Lauren Faust's amazing skill has taken the toy and animation scene by storm. One good example is the "Princess Celestia" toy produced by Hasbro which has a colour scheme completely different to the one used on the animation character "Princess Celestia" in MLP:FiM.

As already stated, me and my family are log time fans of the series, and my primary motivation of writing this short opinion is to advice Hasbro not to take he 4rth generation of MLP too lightly. MLP:FiM is excellent intellectual property and potentially a larger age and gender demographic than ever before. Now if you could only start catering to these people.
