All of the stupid reactions to Feeling Pinkie Keen is pretty remarkable. Only if you are the most hyper-sensitive of atheists would you take it as an assault on "science" or an endorsement of religious belief.

I mean, fuck, the moral of the episode is that your lack of understanding is not adequate reason to disbelieve in its obvious existence. Pinkie Pie seems to have an ability to predict the future. Twilight disbelieves because of some preconceived notions about how the world works. In the end, empirical experience forces Twilight to just accept that Pinkie Pie is right.

If anything, it's a strong endorsement of Hume-style empiricism - yeah, there's no way you can adequately prove that scientific observation is "true," but only a really stupid pony would stop eating hay because there's no way to prove that hay provides sustenance.

Rarity visits a salon, and when Spike tries to talk to her, the blowdryer comes on. He asks TS to give him a fancy outfit & stache to impress her, but the magic screws up and his stache grows wild. He asks FS to help him put together a bouquet, but there are bees in it. RD tries to teach him how to be about 20% cooler, but he accidentally ends up insulting Rarity. PP gives him chocolates, but Rarity is allergic to something in them. Eventually, while Rarity is seeing the nurse pony, AJ tells Spike to "Just be yourself (sugarcube)" and so he asks Rarity to go with him to the Gala, simply and sweetly. Rarity misunderstands, says of course she'll go with him - they're all going together, because that's what friends do. Still no date for Spike, but Rainbow Dash's letter to Celestia is all about being yourself.

Absolutely not. Those are the traits that make Trixie what she is and define her character. Vegeta from Dragon Ball, Raphael from TMNT, Ken from Street Fighter, etc. They all have the same personality traits and are also enjoyed by a vast number of fans for it.

Taking away Trixie's alpha personality and making her soft and mellow would destroy her character completely.

Yes and no. They have terrible colours and some of them are flat out creepy. (Why is Rarity's head almost completely turned around?) They're all top heavy, and several of them have had the tails glues in so badly that glue is spilling out onto the hair/toy.

They dont work well to represent the show as a collectible, and they dont work well as artistic reference.

So if you want it for either of the above reasons, no.

if you want it because you want to play with some pony toys, go for it.

You know, I always figured Rainbow Dash was just a pretty good flier, but not the best. I mean there's the Wonderbolts for one, and Ponyville is just a town in a big world. Was kinda waiting for an episode where she finally met the Wonderbolts and got turned down to join cause while she has talent she isnt Amazing, with the moral being something like "you may not be the best, but dont give up".

To the poster that mentioned how he was making pony references and nobody was getting him. The show isn't big outside for the internet, and even then it's more only popular on 4chan, and in that sense only on /co/ and now /b/.

I work at a day care so I deal with kids. I don't see any of the girls at the center with the current MLP franchise things, no toys, no articles of clothing, nothing. Not to mention my aunt is a kindergarten teacher. Most of the kids that WOULD be the target demographic of this show are in school at the time and she's also said she hasn't seen anything in the way of MLP merchandise or heard anything about it among the students.

Really, I'd go so far as to say were it not for /co/ picking up on the show it wouldn't even be getting a second season. Then again apparently it's only getting seasons because the toys are selling (somewhere, again, I haven't seen where) and hopefully thanks to /co/ the animators have a bit more confidence and weren't just going to give up on the show in making the second season.

But I digress, the show isn't that popular in "the real world" and I'd highly doubt anyone outside of 4chan browsers to know about it.

Trust me, I follow gaming and EVERYTHING is based on the name of a franchise and what people expect of that name instead of the actual quality of the game. I imagine it works the exact same with movies, television, etc.

My Little Pony is associated with pre-k girl stuff, not a funny show with good characters. Unless they tried to market it differently, that's all it's going to be to everyone else. Hell, even if they tried marketing it differently, people would still see the name and not care.

1) I doubt Hasbro care who buys their toys or why they buy them.
2) The show really is technically, as trolls might say, actually just an advert for the toys. So ratings don't actually matter as much as for a show that needs to sell ad time.
3) Which channel the show was to air on was likely decided (and contracted) before the show even went into production. So it's just one of those things if the dumb scheduling and limited channel availability fucks everything up.
4) I'm sure everyone involved realises the show is good, but they can't really do anything about whether people watch it. There are all kinds of obstacles to getting people to watch an MLP show no matter how good it is.
5) Lauren Faust's desire to make a show with proper characters who are interested in more than boys and dresses might actually be part of the problem, at least as far as target demo ratings are concerned, because little girls are not exactly the most discerning audience evar. The fact that the show is good might actually be making it harder for it to succeed, which I for one am quite happy with.

I have this lovely image in my head of Twilight entering Celestia's private chambers with some very urgent problem, and encountering her wearing the SLUT shirt, maybe half-asleep, maybe just sitting around eating ice cream and watching Scrubs. Either way, Twilight has to talk to Celestia about something super important, and Celestia doesn't call any attention to the SLUT shirt, like she doesn't know she's wearing it. Twilight's eyes keep drifting down to it, and she's really distracted by it, but she just can't bring herself to ask about the shirt, because it would be way too rude, and because she realizes she probably doesn't want to know, but it's just so distracting and it's right there and Celestia doesn't seem to realize she's even wearing it.

It's hilarious.

So what do you guys want me to do with fics on the blog that receive piles of negative comments?

I can't read them all before I upload, so it's bound to happen (and has...recently)

Er, well, to be honest I've not read a really BAD fic on the blog, but I tend to avoid the grimdark and heavy shipping ones.

Ones that get generally bad reviews, though... I'm not sure. I like your policy of being open to posting most things (aside from the fapfics, obviously). Maybe you should just leave them and let the reviews speak for themselves. The author may learn things, too. Who knows.

Keep them up for posterity's sake. Maybe add some kind of special tagline like "This story has controversy! (fluttershay yay)"
I'd hate to see stories deleted, though. It's an archive. Maybe just some kind of voting system or something so people can pick stories based on what others liked.

Spoilered for negative opinions:
I personally don't like Severing and think the ScratchXDash fic went a bit flat after the second chapter.

Glida got kicked out of flight school for clawing open one of her rival's throats after a race got a little too heated.

All the other pegs shunned Rainbow Dash, and with her only friend gone, she didn't feel like doing anything but sleep all the time. So she got kicked out too.

I say scrap them. If a fic has been up for awhile with bad reviews, one star, nobody caring about it, etc, just pull it off. You are not obligated to keep everything sent to you, your blog isn't a storage bin. This way, you don't have tons of ho-hum fics clogging up space and it helps maintain quality. Besides, it isn't like they can't be passed around in the threads if somebody wants them.

Thing is that most people are not into art for art's sake. Most people want to watch/listen to something that they can talk about in generic face-to-face social situations. That's a large part of why bad, well-marketed shows succeed, why popular shows stay popular even after they start to suck, and MLP is completely useless from that perspective.

Even I can't watch the intro credits to MLP, simply because it doesn't actually represent what it is that makes the show work. It confronts me with the fact that I'm watching something that I'm not ever really going to be able to talk about outside of the internet.

These are just my personal opinions, I don't intend to hurt anyone's feelings!
But well, the idea of pony murder is just too comical for me to ever take seriously at all. It'd be like have Jerry go to jail for giving Tom brain damage from all those hits to the head.
Also Scratch just didn't DO or say anything interesting after the first two bits and just kind of hung out for Dash to kiss at the end.

I don't know. Talking about it IRL can work. My best friend watches some cartoons with me (we loved Chowder and Flapjack back when that was on; less impressed by Adventure Time). He's into anime, which I think is stupid, but whatevs.

Anyways, it can work if you introduce it in the right way. I just started watching it on his TV and when he started laughing I was just ALPHA AS FUCK about it. He gave it a shot and loves it, too.

With that said, we can't bring ourselves to say stuff like "cutie mark" out loud. And, as he put it, "We must never let anyone cooler than us know about this."

I think the key for me is that, in our inner-circle of friends, I'm relatively near the top in the pecking order. So if I do something embarrassing it's not too big of a deal.

I have one friend. I showed him Swarm of the Century. He looked at me with sly eyes and snickered. He doesn't like it though
