My guess is that she learned it in Canterlot, it was a place of magical studies after all. She just probably had never used it in real world conditions, so when she does, its rough, up until applebuck after she has used it a few time. Though in applebuck, she was blinking just a few feet at a time, she could see her destinations clearly. In the pilot, and in Ticket master, she teleported to locations she could not see. First directly behind nightmare moon, then through several walls back to her home.

Its a skill that requires concentration and is easy to mess up, in short, but she has always known how to do it.

Take all characters and rule 63 them - are you comfortable watching the show now? No, because these characters are specifically designed for females and they don't translate well into men.

Now maybe it's a bit sexist to say "Fuck this show because it's for women" but seriously "Fuck this show because it's for women" not because it's bad or good but because it's not mostly women talking about it - it's assholes who spam it because it pisses off some guys and assholes protesting it because as anyone can tell you when you put two assholes near each other there's going to be fucking. And yeah there are some people who really want to talk about it, and yeah there are some women who really want to talk about it - but they're not the one's talking about it. The assholes are louder.

I absolutely love Gilda! Her design is so refreshing to look at. I really enjoy her super-alpha personality too. She would be a fantastic friend to have, being so protective. Friends with backbones are always a huge plus.

Also, I don't think Gilda was anywhere near as bad as people peg her to be. Why would Rainbow Dash be such good friends with her if she was? Rainbow Dash is basically just a second rate dweeb version of Gilda anyway. Nobody noticed that until Rainbow Dash got more episodes to develop, then it became clear how similar they really are.

Not so much character development as there was a much greater danger right behind her. If she had jumped across the ledge to actually FACE the Hydra, then it would have indicated character development.

I suppose that she never considered the possibility of actually dying while fighting Nightmare, while the price for failure against the Hydra was certain death. Twilight has never been portrayed as a coward, but lately she has become recklessly brave and confident in herself.

Perhaps the moral took her down a notch, but still it seems as if there is a significant change in her compared to the earlier episodes.
