Hey you guys, I found this awesome series of movies from the late 70's. It's a completely sci-fi setting with aliens and light-speed travel and galactic politics, except for this one thingy.
Apparently some sentients who practice meditation can use telekenesis and future knowledge. But instead of scientists harnessing this power for the good of all, it's only studied by these monks who also learn martial arts and act as galactic police.
And at the end, it's revealed there's some sort of afterlife, 'cause the main bad guy dies and the good in him redeems him, so he keeps "living" as a sort of blue ghost.
What's weird is it has all these novels and various TV specials and series based on it, and they all treat it as totally SF, not religious or magical at all, even though the implications are enormous, especially the afterlife stuff; that's fine for the monks, but what about the everyday people who haven't spent their lives meditating?
Anyway, I thought you guys might be interested in it. It's called A New Hope. |
