Quickfic: Cutie, Mark VII
02/10/11(Thu)00:07 No.23342227Peach Darling the Unicorn filly was crying in the rain. She had no cutie mark, and she was one of only five blankflanks left in her class.
"Peach! Get inside!" called the teacher, and thunder boomed as if to emphasize the danger. Peach looked up, and froze. She could see lightning flashing through the clouds. It was beautiful. It was terrible. It was hungry.
And then, a white-hot bolt of pure energy flashed down from the sky and struck the young filly on the very tip of her horn!
It was like bathing in the sun. It was like standing inside a furnace. It was so hot it should, by all accounts, have blown her apart like a ripe watermelon.
Instead, she saw beyond. She saw the sun and the stars beyond the clouds, galaxies of stars. She saw the moon below her. She saw two lights in the direction of Canterlot, one as bright as the sun, the other dimmer, reflecting the greater light.
She turned her head and looked at the school. Each of the fillies inside the building was like a little star of their own, each burning with a different purpose, a different destiny.
Another star burned brightly just behind her. She turned again and saw (truth impossible to describe) (a world of potential) (a Unicorn filly's flank, no longer blank) (her own new mark)
And then, she fainted.
When she awoke, she was in the clinic. Her mother and father stood over her, worry etched upon their faces. She smiled weakly, and then told them what her new cutie mark meant.
The letter from Canterlot arrived that afternoon. |
