Rainbow Dash is the the exec who goes, "I don't know anything about cartooning, but I know what I like".

Pinkie Pie is the worst one of all--the exec who wants to "help".

The disasterous fashion show is Faust's little dig at the executives, reminding them that if she followed their instructions slavishly, the cartoon would be a wreck. The moral of the story is that they should sit back and let the people who know what they're doing do their job.

Hard to say. Like other episodes I consider God tier, this one had me at least smiling from start to finish. Reasons include:

Musical montages, Musical montages everywhere (with that Rarity singing voice)
Rollercoaster of highs and lows
AMAZING animation

Yeah, that's the one thing I didn't think you'd go through with. It's hard for me to imagine a headband with a dress, but I do have a bias for head items such as hats or bands. One could work, but as for hats it'd be up to you to decide which one fits your look best. As much as I'd love to help, I draw blanks if I'm working with just the clothes alone.

I'd suggest some sort of wide-brimmed fedora, creme colored with a gray band if you can. Inverse the colors if you have to, but it won't work as well. Ugh I need to go to the mall or something again, see what would or wouldn't work and what is available. It's hard to do this based on pure thought.

The first fashion show pokes fun at the experimental fashion world, where no sane person would enjoy it, much less wear it in public (Lady Gaga thrives on this idea). yet the designers are so arrogant that they literally believe it looks good because they say so, and fashion slaves simply eat it up. (if you haven't yet, watch "Zoolander")

Every pony gets a chance to show off her best and worst qualities. Rarity has been bitchy in the past, but this was the first ep since NMM where she was cast in a positive light. Rainbow Dash is the only one of the six who still hasn't gotten one of those eps, and AJ's was kind of muted.

Also, regarding Fluttershy's knowledge of sewing.

1) The plot required that someone know something about sewing because the point was that they apologized to Rarity by finishing her dress. It could have been Twilight reading a book or something, but we've seen that before.

2) Reiterating my pet theory: Fluttershy learned about sewing by reading shitloads of bridal mags because her biggest fantasy is to get married and have kids of her own. Since she's too shy to meet a male, she sublimates her mother complex by caring for Ponyville's critters.

I have a really good friend who is a lesbian and she adores Dash for this reason. When she was growing up she always looked up to female characters who were all "be yourself" etc. but in a general sense rather than "be yourself in regards to sexuality". So they always were like "be yourself" and then "boys will like you and you'll get married" etc.

Well, Celestia was meant to be beautiful in the sense that she's this otherwordly, amazonian sort of figure, or at least that's what I was going for. Fluttershy, I admit that I'm not satisfied with how her face came out, I'll be making some edits. The reason FS is so tall is because of a joke. It must suck to be shy and want to blend in or hide when you're that tall. AJ isn't "inbred", if you've ever looked at people you'd see that some have been out in the sun for so long that their faces crinkle more when they smile and shit. Same thing here.
