Food for thought. Forgive me for a tl;dr musing which probably comes to no real conclusion. I'd have posted this on my DA account, but its a weird place, and its much less attracting of attention to post it here. Word has it that the show will likely get a second season, yes? If it does, I have no doubt that Faust and her crew can continue coming up with ideas to keep it alive, but I also wonder what the show will look like when the time comes, and I can only say that there's a whole lot of possibility. Think about it.
The series itself is already as much of an anomaly as one can imagine. It has, at least for those who have witnessed it, completely transformed a universally recognized and reviled long-time franchise. As a result, we have an unpredicted adult fanbase which seems to be small but enthusiastically vocal; and most of them are indeed the opposite of the show's target gender, and of course an intended child fanbase of which considerably less is presently known.
That adult fanbase could be a key factor in the show's future; especially considering how much Lauren Faust and crew are very aware of it, thanks to the democratic effects of the internet. And between now and the end of episode 26, we have about three more months of new episodes; we're only a little over halfway into the season, and there's no telling how much effect fan reaction to the show will have, or has had, on the creative hands behind the show, and the work they've put into it. And of course, you have to consider how much effect Hasbro's say has had in its current form. I daresay that many of us like this show much better than they may have if it had gone the magical girl route that Lauren Faust originally had in mind. |
