[ The Subject of New Threads & The Generals ]

Please check the MLP:FiM Thread Locator and
Archive before going out and about and starting
a new thread. /co/ doesn't mind if we stay in
a general thread, but the biggest complaint I
see from them is that there are multiple threads.

A new general should not be made until the official
general is on the brink of autosaging into 404 hell,
and is at the image limit (150 pics). Once a new one
is established, it should be posted at the end of the
old general and everyone needs to herd themselves to
the next.

Obviously trolls & haters cannot be helped.

New System: When the old general thread dies, the
general thread image is to be deleted and placed
onto the new one. Old general will be archived.

Archive system can only pick up threads with the
correct keywords, MLP, Pony, Ponies and things
along them lines work.

Pinkie Pie's mother was one of the finest confectioners in all of Equestria.
When she was small, she would watch her mother cooking amazing treats and she would help deliver them from here to Phillydelphia.
Most of these deliveries were to parties, where Pinkie was able to see how her moms creations made everyone happy. But to serve is not the same as to be invited. So Pinkie would watch the well-to-do ponies have grand galas and birthday parties from the kitchen where she was happy to help her mom make the parties even better.
After every party, Pinkie would find her own candy and loving nuzzle for doing her best.

The travel took it's toll on Pinkie's mother, she got very ill, and left Pinkie alone in this world.
But the lessons stayed with Pinkie and she always takes a sweet outlook on life.
Staying in Ponyville with her aunt and uncle in the bakery.

Now and then she has a candy and looks up happily to see the stars.

I would imagine Trixie is quite good at what she does. She certainly doesn't look like a dabbler and is just trying out performing for the first time. Judging by the way she didn't give a shit about her stuff being destroyed either, I'm going to guess that it was just small peanuts compared to whatever else she owns.

I'd guess that she has an established place of business and a house in some very rich town, since she is so snobby. With just enough money to fund her travels, she'll pack up a small caravan and move around the area. She'll return home after a certain amount of time, deposit all of her earnings and profits, then repeat the process. That is what most traveling performers and merchants do.

Why "Suited for Success" is the Best Episode

This entire episode was a subtle, somewhat good-natured "Take That!" by Lauren Faust and the scriptwriters to the Hasbro executives:

Rarity --> Faust and the writers
Her friends --> the Hasbro execs
Dresses --> MLP:FIM stories

Just like Rarity, Faust and the writers have to struggle to come up with good stories while staying within the guidelines laid down by the Hasbro folks. Who, like Rarity's friends, don't know squat about story-telling; they just want to push the image of the toy line they're marketing. Each friend represents a different kind of corporate idiocy:

Twilight Sparkle is the exec who demands technical accuracy in every little detail, even if it isn't relevant or helpful to the story line.

Applejack is the exec who doesn't give a damn about the cartoon and just wants to see product placement.

Fluttershy is the exec who believes they know more about the art of cartooning than the cartoonists do.

Rainbow Dash is the the exec who goes, "I don't know anything about cartooning, but I know what I like".

Pinkie Pie is the worst one of all--the exec who wants to "help".

The disasterous fashion show is Faust's little dig at the executives, reminding them that if she followed their instructions slavishly, the cartoon would be a wreck. The moral of the story is that they should sit back and let the people who know what they're doing do their job.

I liked most of these. The ones I read, anyway. I haven't read the Nightmare Cycle or the Angel one. The ones I did read, they're interesting thought experiments, if nothing else.

Spike, My Boy: This made me feel sad for Twilight mostly. I mean, I would agree that little Spike would need to be taken away from her in that situation, but at the same time I feel bad for Twilight, because she does care for him but is incapable of keeping him safe or even understanding what she's doing wrong. Perhaps it's mostly because she doesn't understand that makes me feel bad for her. It's kindof like smacking a puppy. A puppy which is a danger to itself and others and believes it's a pony and I've lost the metaphor.

The Time Had Come: This, on the other hand, was heartwarming. And kindof fitting, really. Pinkie is the element of laughter, after all. Even though she doesn't send the Cakes into guffaws, she still brightens their days with good cheer.
Maybe they'll figure out that Pinkie shouldn't be baking, and instead have her be a party planner. For just the cost of expenses plus a service fee, you can have Pinkie design a fabulous party for you, fit for any occasion! Of course no party is complete without baked goods, but luckily the Cakes sell those, too. Celebrate today!

They might not summon it, but they control it.

Like in Look Before You Sleep, when Applejack says they forgot a scheduled shower, so they made a really heavy downpour to make up for it. Weather doesn't happen on it's own in Equestria.

They moved rainclouds into position. Thats all they did. As I said, they are cloud shepherds. Cowboys of the sky. The most impressive thing we have seen them do to date is simply disperse a bunch of clouds in winter wrap up. To say they control the weather is giving them too much credit. i've only had one complaint about your stories.
and it's that gas doesn't work that way.
if they were already baking when Pinkie got there, the gas would have burnt off. and if there was enough gas to blow up a whole block built up in the shop, assuming there's no good ventilation, then they would suffocated long before that.

Regarding continuity in episodes...

What Faust wanted was hard continuity, as in story arcs. What Hasbro wanted was a show you could watch out of order and not be lost.

This doesn't mean you can't still have some continuity. Anyone could watch Suited for Success without having seen The Ticket Master and they wouldn't be lost, but if you'd seen them in order, you'd get a little more out of it. The same will be true of Call of the Cutie and Stare Master.

Similarly we have the eps about seasonal changes. WWU was shown around the holidays because it's the closest thing they had to a Christmas ep. FWF was probably shown closer to where it fits in the chronology. There may still be some other eps out of order. But I wouldn't be surprised to see:

More eps taking place in fall.
A fall-to-winter seasonal change ep.
More wintery episodes.

I can't decide which songs I like better, Rarity's Pinky's or WWU.

She was just excited because all her friends were excited and she's loyal. Even if she's a jerk half the time, she likes to do what her friends are doing.
Besides, Rarity made it sound really exciting. Once it came time to actually make suggestions, Rainbow couldn't offer anything better than "I don't like it" and "It needs to be cooler!", because she's out of her element.
In the end, she had fun because she got to play with her friends, and zip around with multicoloured lightning bolts in the fashion show.

The most recent episode falls into the same pattern for me. Watching it the first time there's so much new material to take in I get overwhelmed and think it's "just okay". After reading some generals and giving it more time I enjoy the episodes more on the second viewing, and even more on the third. Anyone else do this?

I didn't even like the Winter Wrap Up song at first, but now it's my favorite.

I don't think Rarity's motivation for making a dress for everybody was entirely selfless. This is the Grand Galloping Gala, after all, if they all wore her designs it would probably bring her a lot of cred as a designer. That's probably why she didn't ask for their consultation in the first place, she wanted to show off HER work, not... whatever mess her friends concocted.

Dash just has no foresight. A good example of this is in Griffon the Brush-Off when she's all hyped up to prank Fluttershy, but instantly backs down when Pinkie says it would hurt her feelings. She's not cruel, she just didn't think about it.
