Repony: The Genetic Opera

Okay, this is the general now? Cool. (not OP by the way but in the same situation)

I just finally watched the episode and HOLY SHIT, this might be the best one so far. Dat fashion show at the end blew my mind, it was so gorgeous. I was literally disgusted when the ponies didn't like Rarity's original designs - they were so GORGEOUS. Especially Fluttershy's, with the flowers in her hair, and the butterfly, she looked so lovely. I didn't dislike a single one of their outfits; once the HD episode comes out, I hope someone makes a background of at least one of them posing. They looked so preeeetty, my gosh.

ALSO, finally! A Rarity-centric episode! And now that we get to see more of her, I like her a lot more; her little "snobby and perfectionist" one-liners or moments in the bigger episodes weren't too endearing, but you get to see more of her real personality here. She's a total doll - and quite the drama queen. Her flailing over what to WALLOW IN had me cracking up.

(Crazy cat lady line? From Pinkie Pie? Maybe my favorite line for the whole show.)

One last thought for the episode - WHY are all the non-pony animals always so ugly? Angel and the bunnies were cute, but the cows and donkey and Rarity's sudden cat.... Eh. Ugly.

I agree with the guy earlier in the thread.

It's nice how the other ponies who suggested their own fashion designs had NO IDEA what they were doing, and they realized it once onstage.

Usually in a girl's cartoon, EVERYONE has FASHION and everyone is some kinda supermodel just waiting to happen. It gets a bit iffy and really shows why I don't watch those shows.

This episode was a pelasant subversion of the normal. Gave me a slight bitter taste in my mouth, but it was good to see Twilight and the gang snap back into character to help Rarity.

That bitter taste recovered into a sweet nectar just in time.

This episode is just so weird.

It's good. It's very good. But it's about dressmaking.

Now while that seems like an inherently girly thing, I can't think of many girl's shows that actually do any stories focusing on dressmaking, at least not like this.

Consider Faust outright stated that Rarity was supposed to be a twist on the common stereotype of the shopaholic. This is pretty much the character's defining episode, showing off her artistic side. I could actually see this inspiring some girls to look into design work from an artist's standpoint, which I think is pretty damn cool.

IRL, I'd agree with this. Not getting any kind of specifications or even decent feedback is really frustrating.
