Why did so many people disliked Boast Busters? Was it the characters? (Trixie, Snails and Snips) The plot? (Which I admit, was silly at some points... HURR DURR, I JUST HUMILIATED YOU, THAT MEANS I DID IT BETTER, SEE? THE CROWD IS CHEERING).

I tought it was a decent episode, loved Trixie, and I found S&S quite tolerable. Besides, we algo got moustache Spyke and power-haxxor Twilight.

Personally I loved this ep. The writing was spot-on; funny, revealing, even suspenseful in parts. Lots of clever sight gags in the style of old cartoons, and the background work was beautiful.

I thought the animation was great, especially when the leaves flew around. The only real issue was the cloning, but that always happens in big crowd scenes on MLP. Like it or not, this is not a terribly high-budget show.

I didn't like Trixie at all as a character. Snips and Snails were also kinda annoying. I thought the plot was pretty weak. Twilight's reason not to use magic was dumb and I thought Spike was more annoying than usual as well. The moustache was good, I'll grant you that, but it feels like his only line throughout the episode was "Hurr, no, Twilight is better than Trixie".

It wasn't up until the ending with the Ursa that I started enjoying the episode.

Which makes it all the more impressive how good the animation looks considering it's done in flash.

A friend I showed this to who has done flash animation before could not believe it was done in flash. She said it looked too good. I had to do a google search for proof before she'd believe me.

Also, what the hell was up with Celestia's expression in this scene? I guess the animators were trying to make her seem nice, but there's really no way to seem benevolent when you're towering over a bunch of bowing subjects.

Personally, I thought it all just felt too shallow. The great thing about FiM is that it doesn't let the characters fall into stereotype; they're all very nuanced and multi-dimensional, even though they're based on archetypes.

But Boast Busters had three new characters who all came off as generic and stereotypical to me. The two dumb guys, and the egotistical bully. I was waiting for Trixie to have something more to her character than that, but nothing ever happened; it all just felt too predictable. A surprising ending for the episode would have been if she WASN'T lying about the Ursa Major.

That said, it's not a bad episode, just the weakest of the bunch.

You didn't miss much. Well, Lauren came by and told us all about the amazing storyline she has planned for season two now that the execs have given her full creative control. And also about the plans for the new FiM theatrical film, which will be out this Christmas from the studio that animated Secret of Kells. The production stills look amazing, especially the huge musical number in Canterlot castle, after Pinkie becomes the new ruler.

But she swore us all to secrecy and then deleted all her posts. She says they won't be making any official announcements about this stuff until at least July.
