Monday's finally here. We have no idea how this will turn out. We lost track of interest after the first couple dozen contributors. This could be a banner day for fan material. It could be a fizzle. Either way, some of us are interested in collecting and compiling material. Including the following information would be very helpful to us.

ENTRY: Just say it's for the friendoff in your message. Lots of fan material gets posted every day, some new, old. Saying it's for the friendoff will help make sure we won't miss you.

TITLE: Please consider adding a title. If you've looked up stuff at, say, the Equestria Daily blog, you'll know it's hard to find something if it hasn't got a title. If you struggle with titles, even a one or two word description of the subject would be helpful. e.g. "Pinkie #11, B&W" If you're contributing more then one piece, the 1/n numbering system is also nice.

NAME: Feel comfortable with posting as anonymous. Trips are also good. If you are or considering contributing regularly, a tripcode is a very useful feature.

CREDIT: Simply posting your contribution will be the highest form of flattery to whomever inspired you. But consider stating who made the original contribution. If you don't know, that's OK. Just don't guess, that would probably be confusing.

Expect stuff to be posted over the next 24 hours. We won't know how it turned out until Tuesday. While you're looking at and reading the contributions of others, think about if this is something we want to do again.

So far the only way I found to get a temporary break from shipping is to go to other websites. RPG.net has a few MLP:FiM threads full of trying to make a coherent pony culture out of what we are show in the cartoons, and the something awful thread has some of the same thing except done ironically and occasionally harassed by trolls.

My theory is still:

The thing is, McD's are often sent several cases of the exact same toy. They don't get shipments of the complete set or anything. The folks doing the shipping don't really take into consideration the parents looking for a specific toy - they just care about stocking a sufficient number of them, so often individual McDs just get the first X amount of boxes grabbed from the truck, which tends to result in large amounts of identical toys.

Ok managed to watch episode 13. It was a good episode, not the best, but I think this one exemplifies well the idea that MLP: FiM is not just some kiddy, girly 30-minute advertisement. The pace, the humour, the storyline—you could replace the whole pony deal with any other cartoony setting and it would still hold up.

About three weeks ago, Sunday night, I was sitting around my house thinking about ideas for a story. It needed some kind of drama or conflict. What if Dash got hurt in a flying accident? It's dangerous, she's reckless. Seemed like something that could happen. Wait, what if Dash were killed in that accident? How would Ponyville react? What would the funeral be like? Would the Wonderbolts do a fly-over? Then I thought, what if instead of being in an accident, Dash was murdered? Shit just got interesting. So I wrote a little story about it, called it "Loyalty," and posted it Monday morning.

By Tuesday night it had gotten six or seven responses, mostly along the line of "Fuck you, Twilight Sparkle!" That's not bad, actually. I had gotten my readers emotionally involved, and at least they weren't mad at me. I figured I could extend the basic premise of the story over four more stories, each with its own theme and tone. I asked if anybody would be interested in a whole series, and I got one response that basically said "Twilight killing all her friends? I'd read the shit out of that." So I posted "Trust" the next day. Reaction was overwhelmingly negative. I asked if I should stop there, and I got a universal "fuck no, keep going." I think I got a couple of threats against my life if I stopped. Around that time, I think it was Tuesday night, Discotecnia Ottentia (sp?) posted this picture he had drawn of my first story. Not only was it awesome, it looks like he put a lot of effort into it too. After that I wasn't going to stop for nothing. By the time I had posted the fifth story on Saturday, shit had absolutely exploded. But my favorite experience of the whole thing was seeing this picture. It's where I got the idea of doing something based on somebody else's work, the idea that turned into the Friend-off. There's been lots of good stuff today. I hope everybody's enjoyed their own work and the work of others. Friends, magic, yada, yada, yada.
