01/31/11(Mon)19:49 No.23087885>>23085622 >>23087500 I've been wanting to say something about Rarity for awhile now...
I've been very pleasantly surprised by how her character has been portrayed and handled. Usually, particularly so on girl's shows, vanity and being materialistic are the BIG CARDINAL SINS characters can have. Any female character with these traits is usually shown as being very much so in the wrong, the Libby character tends to be highlighted here. Any protagonist that shows signs of this is usually subjected to learning that looks aren't everything (In fact, most girl's shows seem to proclaim "looks are nothing compared to anything else") and forced to give up their obsession with material wealth.
Rariety, by contrast, is a point-blank Gold Digger, works in beautifying nature, and is extremely visually conscious. These aspects have her personality and behavior have yet to be called out as bad, in fact, they're typically the subject of comedy rather than scorn.
Her only real "flaw", so far, is her obsessive attention to detail when it interferes with the bigger picture or her personal/mental safety. A flaw, I remind you, Tish Katsufrakus of "The Weekenders" (a bookish nerd) also had. |
