[ The Subject of New Threads & The Generals ]

Please check the MLP:FiM Thread Locator and
Archive before going out and about and starting
a new thread. /co/ doesn't mind if we stay in
a general thread, but the biggest complaint I
see from them is that there are multiple threads.

A new general should not be made until the official
general is on the brink of autosaging into 404 hell,
or is at the image limit (150 pics). Once a new one
is established, it should be posted at the end of the
old general and everyone needs to herd themselves to
the next.

Obviously trolls & haters cannot be helped.

general thread image is to be deleted and placed

Cool, we had this whole thing in the other thread about theories as to why Applejack seems to be the only pony with a prehensile tail. We had a lot of them, so I request my favorite.

Applejack's tail is a special skill, crafted from years of trying to move things without the aid of unicorn magic. After being mocked by unicorns all her life that about her lack moving appendages (wings), or magic to help, she falls into the depression, until she decides to do something about it. she learns to use her tail like hand to show them she was just as good as they were.

What if AJ was the actual Mary Sue?
Think about it, in ALL her episodes, she was being helpful, she dragged fluttershy in Dragonshy, helped everyone in Applebuck, Wanted to help everyone in Ticket master, and even here, she started to cheat only after Rainbow Dash did it a couple of time.
Her only weakness is her pride, but far less than Rainbow Dash, and it's mostly pride on being able to do the job alone than being better than anyone else.
Thats why she's my least favorite with Fluttershy...

You can't get away from that man, somebody is certain to whack to it. I see the same requests for the same shitty fapfics to be reposted over, and over, and over again in these threads. If you don't want to add fuel to the fire, don't bother writing it.

Good episode. I liked that they split the plot up to keep it interesting (start with iron pony, then the race) and it was cute to see AJ and Dash arguing, yet still being friendly. Well, at least early, on like the part where they giggled knowingly. Twilight is boring when she's being pleasant and un-sarcastic, but she wasn't the focus this time. Good ending too, with the bad-sports getting last place and Twilight getting a realistic place for her abilities yet rewarded for her study. Pinkie Pie was suitably adorable and endearing.

This episode seems like a Broken Aesop. Rainbow Dash used an unfair advantage in the Iron Pony competition, then she acted on her false suspicions that AJ cheated. In BOTH cases AJ was on the innocent side. You would think to deliver the message they wanted to, AJ wouldn't have believed Twilight when she said RD didn't trip her, since RD didn't when the reverse happened.

I know it fits their characters, but a characters attributes can be stretched a bit if you're trying to teach a moral.

Basically after the episode you're left wondering why both RD and AJ had to learn the same lesson.

It was similar to Look Before You Sleep, in that despite actually being initially right AJ allows herself to drop to her oppositions level forcing herself learn a lesson alongside them. Which is actually a good moral, no good playing "he started it" when you prooved yourself no better.

I think it could have done without AJ tripping over the rock, it really didn't put RD in a good light that unlike AJ she stubbornly refused to reblieve it was her fault and then kicked the race into bitch fight tier.

Well, the aesop was supposed to be that they both took the competition too seriously. AJ may be level headed and slow to anger, but in the end she still let herself get caught up. Remember, the reason the race even was a competition for them was because AJ got bent out of shape over Rainbow "cheating," to win the Iron Man contest. (whether or not it was cheating is not the point, the point is that AJ was fine with it... up until the point where she snapped)

The same thing happened in the race. AJ had to calm herself/be calmed down. She was just as ready to lay out the cry of CHEATER as Dash was. The fact that Rainbow was the one who broke the rules first doesn't matter: In the end, they both cared more about the competition than anything else, so much so that they not only lost sight of having fun (we can debate the merits of competition vs fun and whether or not encouraging mediocrity is good another time) but they lost sight of the actual purpose of the race: cleaning the trees.

The actual aesop was "competition is fine... until it makes you lose sight of everything else." Based on that, it doesn't matter when or under what circumstances you do it, it only matters that you do.

Fruity Loops... your milage may vary. On the one hand, I know a guy who can churn out some pretty good Eurobeat-LIKE stuff with it; on the other hand, I haven't worked with it and I've seen a lot of folks get too wrapped up in the presets instead of making their own and getting those to work.

I've seen a Garageband knockoff called Mixcraft made for Windows; that might be pretty easy to work with. Any major DAW should also work (Cubase, Pro Tools LE, Cakewalk, etc), but ultimately it's up to how you want to work. If you're happy in MIDISoft Studio 4, then more power to you.

Hey, dont' worry about it. The term "Eurobeat" is pretty iffy; it used to refer to 80's Italo-Disco and stuff like Bananarama, Dead Or Alive and even Rick Astley. The trick is, Japan started liking it, but they wanted it faster. It just sort of turned into its modern "DDR Music" variation it is today.

You wouldn't have to do Eurobeat if you didn't want to, man. I just picked it because it's the genre I know and can make at least somewhat well. Anything you feel like contributing would be awesome, Eurobeat or otherwise.

Yeah, I started thinking along those lines. I never particularly tried to learn to "eurobeat" because it had one too many similarities to house for me to comfortably produce it in, haha. This is a useful term, though, because now I have something to describe bands like Niko (again, no real preference for the band, I just know about them) with.
Also, agreed on the "make your own style" point. I'll hit the drawing-board and see what I can cook up. The biggest problem I'm facing is determining what improvements I could possibly make on these songs. I mean, I really like them. I really enjoyed WWU, and just earlier today I sat down and figured out the chords to Pinky's song in Ep2 (which I posted in an earlier thread; guess there aren't many musical bronies on today or something). When brainstorming about what to bring to all of these potential covers, I'm sometimes at a loss when thinking of what new to add that won't take away from the song as a whole, while still affecting the overall style that the song's presented in.
