it's a persistent world game, like an MMO without levels, but with instances for you and your buddies.
You make your pony, can take an interactive personality test for your cutie mark and pony type, or import your own in TGA format.
You can be an earth pony, pegasus, or unicorn. Earth ponies are the hardest workers and get a bonus to non-combat and physical mini-games (farming high scores, baking to heal others, etc). Pegasus can fly, and obviously get around the fastest, and get access to sky mini-games (weather tricks, racing, trick chaining stuff). Unicorns get magic mini-games that work like little puzzles to do different things (levitate stuff, teleport, etc). Each type of mini game can be done in town, so you can chill in town. If you adventure, you can bring supplies, and the mini-games must be beaten to avoid getting bunted back to town.
You don't get into combat so much as solve puzzles and challenges based on your abilities. If you can't complete them, you'll have to go back home unless your bronies keep you inspired with their own abilities or help you out- IE, baking lets you bring treats along to stay happy, some can sing songs (think rhythm game to ward off getting terrorized back to town), your friends can fly you over impassible gaps or catch you from traps, etc.
