[ The Subject of New Threads & The Generals ]

Please check the MLP:FiM Thread Locator and

a new thread. /co/ doesn't mind if we stay in
a general thread, but the biggest complaint I
see from them is that there are multiple threads.
A new general should not be made until the official
general is on the brink of autosaging into 404 hell,
or is at the image limit (150 pics). Once a new one
is established, it should be posted at the end of the
old general and everyone needs to herd themselves to
the next.
Obviously trolls & haters cannot be helped.

Well in the several shots we have of Canterlot it seems that Celestia's Castle seems to be built on the side of that mountain. Looks only accessable to pegasi or any aereal vehicle. The rest of Canterlot almost looks as open as Ponyville. I can't imagine 10-foot stone walls being much of a deterent for a fraction of the popullation taht can fly.

It is odd the town is built on a nearly vertical cliff and yet in episode one it looks like it has fields. Maybe they carved away part of the cliff for the residents while still keeping 3 sides surrounded by mountains. Unless if there's some sort of hilly plateau underneath the castle. Most, if not all, of the buildings are built like towers and don't take up a lot of space horizontally. And there seems to just be sky and clouds after about two or three backround hills. You think that there's something wrong with people that enjoy watching MLP.
Then you watch it. It really has a charm of its own, and you can feel that the people working on the show are making a conscious effort to make it into something an adult can enjoy watching (which is smart, because then adults will watch it with their kids).

I can only tell you that I was similarly skeptical before I gave it a try. Just watch the first episode and see what you think

Canterlot is probably a completely artificial makeup. The grass and trees are real, but they didn't just appear there naturally. More likely Celestia built a big 'bowl' hanging off the side of the mountain, and started saying things like "This would be a good place for a stream. I'd like a grove over here!", then moved a bigass clump of soil onto it and started shaping everything to her specifications. Given what we know about weather ponies and the way nature works in Equestria, this isn't that far off.
For that reason, Canterlot is probably seen as a shining example of Celestia's natural will among the ponies. It always seemed to me like Ponies thought it was an amazing place for reasons more than just 'Princess Celestia lives there'. It's considered a pretty impressive place in its own right.
Creating idealic pseudo-nature where it's not really supposed to exist seems like something that would appeal to ponies, honestly.

Yes, the hair in you picrelated is bouncy, which reflects the character's personality and thus makes sense to me. Name me any made for tv cartoon with good hair animation. Models may be recycled, but the animation is not. Most of the recycling occurs with the background characters, who nobody really gives a shit about. The main cast has all unique animations.

There was a setting we made on /tg/ that could fit here. And I'm surprised how comparable it is.

Basically, the world ended, and the only way for people to live was to go into magic biodomes. There were spirits that guided the rain, they had a parade as they moved on that brought the water with them to the towns. Because it was magic based, there was a magical barrier that blocked the dangerous air, which you can call the Evergreen Forests, and which excuses why ponies don't go there.

Outside of the biodomes was, effectively, the Zone from STALKER. You had to wear protective gear, but people had to venture their to gather supplies and survivors. But they had to deal with dangerous monsters.\

There could be other bio domes with other species, but getting there is so dangerous that it is written off.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I still love MLP and hit up the threads. But they've spiralled out of control, and they're pissing off /co/ at a level I never prediced they would.
It's BECAUSE I love these threads so much that I think they need a break. We're resorting to porn and other cheap tricks to keep ourselves entertained, and it doesn't help the thread quality, our reputation, OR our sanities.
We can't all be so selfish as to assume that we aren't causing at least a small amount of a mess for /co/.
