[ The Subject of New Threads & The Generals ]

Please check the MLP:FiM Thread Locator and
Archive before going out and about and starting
a new thread. /co/ doesn't mind if we stay in
a general thread, but the biggest complaint I
see from them is that there are multiple threads.

A new general should not be made until the official
general is on the brink of autosaging into 404 hell,
or is at the image limit (150 pics). Once a new one
is established, it should be posted at the end of the
old general and everyone needs to herd themselves to
the next.

Obviously trolls & haters cannot be helped.

New System: When the old general thread dies, the
general thread image is to be deleted and placed
onto the new one. Old general will be archived.

It should be noted when you look around /co/, as I've hung out in anti-pony threads and a few survey threads, the general population of /co/ doesn't care about these threads, they may think its strange and unusual that we are into a show like this, or even think its stupid, but your average /co/mrade is smart enough to filter and ignore them.

There are always the people who bitch and complain about multiple threads, but again the average /co/mrade knows there isn't at times, unless something happens like a troll who makes and deletes a thread, and of course random new people. Most of the hatred for at least the month of January is pointed more at the butthurt /co/mrades that post the anti-pony posts asking why the fuck does /co/ allow this, that we're the cancer, we're killing /co/ and so forth. Most of the time everyone else on /co/ is telling them to shut the fuck up, that those threads are the worse problem.

It's not so much stick with it, as it is there are better parts. It's an episodic/slice of life/comedy with a sappy moral at the end of it. Faust wanted Sailor Moon with ponies, but Hasbro stepped in and changed it. It's be like the publisher telling Jim Butcher that Harry was now a teenage Pegasus that had to deal with High School stuff. It changes a lot afterwards. And most of us say skip it entirely, don't even bother watching the first two episodes because they probably won't come up at all.

I don't typically read fanfics of anything, (which I feel makes me a huge hypocrite for now having written half of one). But I've read one or two from here to tide me over until next episode (being a recent graduate and tons of free time I've never had before helps too).

I found that the ones I read were generally good, mostly because I stop reading the bad ones after the first paragraph. There was one very cute one of Twilight's 2nd slumber party that had AJ and Pinkie there. It was very cute. Then it turned lesbian. . . ah well, still kind of cute.

Unlike most of /co/ (judging from all the other threads I see), I enjoy my anime. And there are entire series about kids getting super powers and relying on their friends to defeat evil. I would be stuck comparing FiM to them, and it would diminish it in my eyes. Part of me wouldn't mind Twilight befriending Trixie through the use of superior firepower, but then I would always compare it to Nanoha or Narutaru. And least the way it is now, it's a breathe of fresh air.

It's more like this, as I understand it: the pilot was about Nightmare Moon's return, but orders from on high required that story to be a two-parter at longest, so that it could be wrapped up to make way for interpersonal troubles as the main topic of the show. Hence the rushed feeling of ep2 and the fact that the tone is so different from everything that follows it.

It's less that "Ep1-Ep2 are bad" and more that "Ep1-Ep2 weren't enough to tell their story well", and "they aren't what the rest of the show is". So it's easy for someone who didn't like a "Sailor Luna" type adventure to mistakenly write it off because of the genre, when they might enjoy the other kind of episode.

That said, if they consider "Applebuck Season" insufferable too, then they probably aren't going to enjoy the show no matter what. So it's not like you're asking them to watch the whole thing.

PUZZLES AND PONIES IS NOT DEAD!

I've had a lot of shit happen in the past few weeks, not the least of which involves a major job change and plans to change countries, so I haven't had too much time to work on the game. Fortunately, my usual gaming group took it as a challenge to write a bit more, and we're playtesting the larger version. Character sheets are nearing completion, thankfully, and the grimdark setting has been officially started, as it's assumed to be the basic setting for the Advanced version of the game.

A page should be up before the end of the week, detailing Stalliongrad, which was my finest stupid, random comment. It'll present the city with a few NPPs, locations, and plot hooks. The plan is for a "lighthearted" and "grimdark" version of it.

Once again, sorry I don't update that much; I've had some serious shit happen lately.

Here are the original rules, and here's the link to the project's official page. I'm also now looking for people willing to playtest the new rules and help with design, as it's obvious I don't have the time to work on this as much as I'd like.

Glad to hear people have played it. It's not meant to be particularly rigorous or demanding, it's easy to min-max, and it's light as hell, but it gives people the opportunity to play around in the neat little sandbox the show gave us.

Someday, when I've finished enough worthwhile content, I'll send Lauren Faust a message and let her know that her work inspired someone. After all, we share the common origin of little girls who loved the show, saw a chance to have fun with it later in life, and took it. Which is what I think it's all about.

One day, I might go out and make a Pony tabletop RPG based on DnD. Just because I know more about DnD specifically, and it might be something fun to do one day.
