I love Ticket Master. I don't think it's fair to blame RD and Rarity for being selfish when really all the ponies were, even timid Fluttershy. But it's not like they were being selfish to be mean, it's just each saw attending the gala as a way to achieve a long-term goal of theirs. The creator of this iteration, Lauren Faust, has stated that its a constant battle with the company to meet their standards and live up to her personal goals for the show. Reading the comments she has been able to make about the process is enlightening, she really cares about the quality of entertainment aimed at little girls. Chapter 2:

Hours had passed. The sun had eventually set into the horizon, laying way for it's sister, the night bringer known as the Equestrian moon. The fillies and colts of Ponyville, once abrew with activity, went their seperate ways upon the night's arrival and returned to their homesteads. However, 6 particular ponies, set with a mission that could not be delayed, met at the entrance of the village, each having brought their own unique travelling items. Twilight Sparkle took the lead, pointing towards Princess Celestia's castle.

"Okay ponies, here is our mission; we have to reach the Castle without delay. We cannot leave the princess waiting. Is everyone ready."

Rainbow Dash, eager to get moving, was soaring across the sky, ready to make the trip.

"Come on you slowcolts! I'm raring to go. Enough preptime, it's go time!"

Twilight sighed in her direction, knowing she was right.

"We'll leave as soon as possible Rainbow. Now, is everyone equipped?"


The rest of the ponies gave a nod, and thus the 6 started their great trek. Seeing them off as they exited Ponyville was Spike, who had his nightcap on and a blanket in hand.

"*yawn* I'll take care of the animals while you're gone. But for now, I'm going back to bed. These late night departures really aren't suited for a dragon like myself."

The ponies were now on their way to the Celestial Castle. Applejack took the moment to look around in the moonlight, crossing her Sweet apple Acres along the way.

Twilight herself couldn't be bothered to partake in their tussle of an argument, as something felt.... off about this night. As if the rays of the moon were different. She couldn't put her hoof on it, but it was something she couldn't ignore. However, it was hard for her to concentrate due to Pinkie Pie being right next to her.

"Hey Twilight! Do you remember the last time we met with Princess Celestia? It's too bad we weren't able to give her a proper party, due to the incident that happened with the parasprites. HEY! What if i threw her a party once we get there? huh? huh? I bet she'd love a party run by the hostest with the mostest, AKA me! What do you think Twilight? Hmmm? Do you think she'd love a party?"

"Er.... I mean look; once we get done helping out the princess, THEN we can throw a party. Okay?"

PInkie's sad face turned to one of joy as she hopped around the traveling group of ponies.

"Oh joy! Thank you Twilight! I can't wait!"

The idle chit chat was of great help as they traveled. They had a long road ahead of them...

The Castle of her royal highness, The Princess of All Equestria, lay glistening in the moonlight, as Golden armored pegasi patrolled around the border. Their mission was simply to protect the castle and the royalty that lay within, and it was a job they were decent at. Four particular pegasi, who flew into the castle, made route to the inner sanctum where the princess was preparing to turn in for the night, after perusing a few documents. She turned her attention to the four pegasi, who gazed upon her rainbow mane that complimented her pure white body and her cutie mark, which was nothing else but the sun itself. What set her apart was the fact that she was an Alicorn, which had the wings of a pegasus, the horn of a unicorn, and the strength of a regular Earth Pony. She turned her purple eyes to the guards and cleared her throat.

"Gentlecolts, I'm sorry to disturb you at this late hour, but I have a task for you to carry out. I want you to go to the Royal Treasury and keep a watch on it every hour of the day. It is of upmost importance. Can I trust you?"

The four pegasi ponies nodded to their ruler and took flight down the hall, taking a left turn outside the Princess's resting chamber and towards the armory. Along the way they ran across the other Princess, Celestia's sister "Luna", the only other Alicorn in all of Equestria. With another respectful bow the male ponies thrust right by her towards the treasury. Upon reaching the door to said treasury minutes later, the four figured out a plan to keep it under constant surveillance, taking shifts when needed. Two ponies stood awake as the others slept, and they began to converse with eachother.

"The Princess sure sounded like she was rustled, don't you think?"

"She must be under alot of duress. Being the Ruler of all the land will do that to you."

"I suppose. Still, what is so important about the treasury anyway? I am aware it is where her highness keeps the treasures, but is it really worth it if they are lost?"

The pegasi took a gander at the door, then at eachother.

"You know, it probably wouldn't hurt to find out. Let's take a peek inside... you know, just to be sure..."

The two pegasi left their other sleeping comrades to rest and opened the large golden vault where the treasury was. One of them went inside while the other stood watch, making sure nothing out of the ordinary happened.

"Hmm... there seems to be nothing out of place. Just a few precious treasures and whatnot... .wait a sec."

The one pegasus ventured in deeper, taking a gander at a particular purple and black box which stood in the center.

"That wasn't there last time we checked the treasury. Did the princess make a new acquisition?"

"I don't know. Check it out."

The pegasus took a closer look, eyeing the box as close as he could. It held a glowing dark aura, one he couldn't shake off easily. He was ever curious to see what was inside, but it was locked tight, leaving whatever was inside a mystery.

"That's probably what the princess wants guarded. Now come on out of there before she sees the door open."

"Alright, i'm coming."

The pegasus turned around, only to hear something shaking. It sounded like it came from the box, but when he turned back, said box was still. He thought it was nothing and exited the treasury, only for the box to shake even more when nobody was looking......

Alright, and understand I say all of this to be helpful.

The biggest enemy of writefags is length. 99% of writefaggotry is garbage. Most people know this, and a lot of them avoid reading any fanfic completely because of it.

Now if you're lucky, and get somebody to actually bother to read your work, they're still going to be impatient. If they think you're dawdling, they'll just stop reading. Length is your enemy, shortness is your friend. Cut out everything that isn't absolutely necessary. Too many adjectives are a killer. To many adverbs are a killer. Too much conversation is a killer. You should feel anguish if your story starts going long. All of mine that go long pain me. Every sentence should be absolutely necessary, and you should have to really shove them in there.

A good example in your work is your long descriptions of your characters. We all know what they look like. Even new characters, which you should be very cautious about introducing, should barely merit any description at all. There are situations where you may need to describe their physical appearance, but not in what you've posted so far.

Same person. I want to point out something else about this episode that bugs the hell out of me.

So the Grand Gala is like this big thing that everyone wants to go to. And the fact that it has tickets implies that its a limited event. I.E. Only a limited number of ponies are allowed to attend.

I haven't really seen any Money in Equestria. There are shops, but we never witness anyone buying anything. It's more like they just exist to distribute things in an orderly fashion. To me this means that the method they use to distribute these tickets must be some kind of Spoils system. The closer you are to the Princess, the more likely you are to get a ticket.

So when she sends Twilight the extra tickets at the end of the ep, since its doubtful such a popular event would not be full to attendance capacity, Who did Celestia have bumped off so her "Prize Pupil" would get just what she wants?

I Can't decide if this show is more Orwellian, since Big Sister is apparently always watching, or Huxlian, sine the populace seems to be doped up to prevent unhappiness.

This is something I worry about too, but I try to force myself not to. Because here's the thing: YOU think about each "said Twilight" line because you have to type it out. The reader, for the most part, does not. The "said" part is purely functional; it simply exists to tell us who is speaking. The focus should be on the dialog, because that's what your reader is focused on. Using anything but "said X" slows things down.

Now of course, sometimes you WANT to slow things down, in which case, it's fine to switch it up. Especially if it's important to the plot for us to know that Twilight whispered or shouted this time. But don't do it just for the sake of variety. It's not something anyone else is going to be worried about.

Gold coins for pony currency sounds good: the color and shape makes the audience immediately realize it's money, and it also makes sense if you think about it: The ponies handle money with their mouths, so a golden coin doesn't breaks or dissolves like a bank bill would do with the pony droll. That and unlike iron, copper or silver, gold doesn't rusts or causes allergies.

Still, it would be difficult to not chuckle or laugh after listening some casual convos about money, with a mare asking a pony to give her a bit, or a pony lending some money to a mare and asking her to catch his bits on her mouth.

You need a lot more than just a Big Sister to be Orwellian. For instance if 1984 was set in a world without the extremely limited resources, it would probably stop being a full blown dystopia and turns into a place where a lot of people would actually probably be pretty happy living in RL, even with Big Brother and Thought Crime around.
