FUCKING ORIGINAL CHARACTERS IN FANFICTION THAT ARE ANYTHING BUT VERY MINOR FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

This is the first show ever that has caused me to "ship". And it's mostly out of sheer cuteness rather than anything perverted.

1. I do not like OCs. I'm a writefag, and I have had to invent a few just to make a plot work. But I would rather work with the real cast, if possible.

2. Yes. My themes vary quite a bit from the show. It's a kid's show after all. But I try to keep the characters as close as possible. Why do otherwise.

3. I've done some shipping, but only for the sake of the story. I don't like it just for its own sake.

4. Hate? MLP redone with dinosaurs. I like grimdark stories and bittersweet stories. But I'm biased.

I really fucking hate when they're pitched as perfect or superior to the main cast. i also hate then they have few or no flaws, or fall really obviously into tropes.

but for me to like one? they need to be really unique, fun to read, and preferably not important to the main cast.

Relationshipping. Just putting two characters together in a (usually) romantic relationship for various reasons. It can get sorta crazy, like it did with Avatar the Last Airbender (people were insisting their ship was canon, and nothing else despite what was happening in the show). But the majority of the shipping in FiM has been pretty light hearted and fluffy, and if the show really dealt with romance, most of it I could see happening.

1) Sometimes OC's are needed to make a story work, but I prefer a focus on the canon characters.

2) These don't have to be mutually exclusive. A unique take can still be in character and true to the show, if done right. Those are the ones I like best.

3) Shipping is fine as long as it's justified. As in, tell the reader WHY character X loves character Y. Don't just start the story with "Rarity had always loved Angel" and leave it at that. Earn it. Make us understand the characters' feelings. I personally don't ship anyone, but I enjoy seeing other people's takes if they're done well.

4) I hate crossovers. Sorry, but they always seem forced and silly to me. I love stories that make me see the characters in a new light, especially when they can do this without contradicting canon.

OCs: Only if their role is EXTREMELY minor and absolutely necessary to the fic. Main characters should always be non-OC.

Unique take is alright if the character isn't too developed in the show itself (e.g. Trixie, Gilda, Derpy etc.) Otherwise stick to the original characterization.

Shipping is generally a no-no, but if it's a "reasonable" ship, not too out of character, and done by a competent writefag, I can deal with it.

Other than shipping and OCs, I'm open to most things. Grimdark, sexfics, sad fics, bring it on.

I especially like ones that could fit into the canon universe like that one Trixie/Squeaks fic.

I know a lot of people hate writefags, and a lot of that hate is pretty justified, but fuck the haters, I want to read MLP stories.

I wrote that one. I try to fit everything into the canon universe as much as I can (although mine is certainly much more difficult). I try to avoid shipping and creating new characters as much as I can, although it's sometimes impossible. I had a story about Twilight undergoing heartbreak. So I had to invent an "OC" to "ship" her with, but it was only for the sake of the story; I didn't do it for the sake of OCing or shipping itself. There was another story about a child soldier. Obviously not a canon character. But I thought it fleshed out the universe and the concept of cutie marks a bit. So I had to invent a character for that too, while inserting as much canon as possible.

The story is what's important.

She discovered that the tale of the Mare of the Moon was all fake, it was an excuse of princess Celestia to take the throne for herself.

Ditzy Doo knew everything, Celestia had to take her out, the God mare failed to kill her, but Ditzy Doo's memories, had gone, she was now retarded.

Celestia brainwashed Luna, so she thought that she actually was the mare on the moon.

Now Luna's memories have come back, and with the help of the outcasts, Trixie, Gilda, and "Derpy" they must stop Celestia once and for all.

But I wouldn't say it is terribly far off from the truth. Being inviting and friendly is difficult in a chan and the fact of the matter is the fanbase has outgrown itself to not begin to disagree on matters in considers to be of absolute importance. When we have to contend with strongly held opinions about things that are comparatively unimportant (ponies, after all) on top of actual trolling, there's bound to be many people mislabeled as trolls.

But it may lead to some person's opinion being wrongly ignored, but compared to arguing continually is certainly seems reasonable.

I think it's funny that so many of you are arguing to the people who are just saying that Rainbow Dash is just a tomboy are homophobic, when really it's you who are being the homophobic ones by claiming that because Rainbow Dash fits SOME stereotypes of the lesbian community, that she MUST be a lesbian.

As a member of the gay community who has quite a lot of lesbian friends, they would be incredibly insulted that you would instantly assume that because Rainbow Dash has a rainbow mane, is athletic and competitve, she must be a lesbian. Most of my gay female companions are no different from any of the girls you know. Sure, there are some that have short hair cuts, wear guyish clothes and ARE typically tomboyish, but I have a lot more friends who have long hair, like romantic comedies and wear dresses and high heels. While there is always some truth in a stereotype, the stereotype is not necessarily correct 100% of the time. What you have to understand is that the show - while enjoyable for ALL of us - was created for children. Lauren Faust herself has said Rainbow Dash was created to show girls that being a girl does not necessarily mean you have to play with dolls, dress up and do each others make up. To argue over the sexuality of a cartoon character seriously is fucking retarded, because they were never created to have one (unless Lauren decides to do an episode in which the ponies get dates).

TL;DR There is nothing wrong with shipping Rainbow Dash into a lesbian relationship out of fun and humour, but if you actually are starting to believe that she must be and are arguing actively against anyone who says so, then jesus christ what the fuck man.
