1) Yes. They allow writers to add something to the world and gives them a variety of new options.

2) If it's fanfiction, then you should write the characters as closely to their original personalities as possible unless you have a REALLY good reason to do otherwise. If the personality is different, that needs to be explained in the plot.

3) Yes and no. The wars are tiresome, but from what I've seen there is no Ship to Ship combat in MLP so it's fine. So long as it's believable and in character, it's fine. I think the porn is a little much though.

The first time I heard about FiM was on /u/, someone posted a picture of the main cast "who do you consider the lesbians ?" or something
then, some time later, saw the "BE A DYKE PONY, EAT CANDYVAG" macro, and I said "I must research this series further!"
Then I saw the pony yuri, got interested in it, started lurking MLP threads just for the yuri, wasn't interested in the show, my favorite pairing was Fluttershy/Dash, then I started posting in the threads, started to like Applejack/Dash, and once I finally saw the show, Pinkie/Dash turned into my OTP.
Too bad there's not much of them.

see from them is that there are multiple threads.

A new general should not be made until the official

1) OC's are okay, depending on how "Mary Sue" they are. If it turns out they are the best friend of all the main characters and once kicked a Ursa Major in the face, then yeah, no good. 1) I don't like OCs in fanfiction. My feeling is, if you're going to make up characters anyway, just make an original story with your own charaters.

2) Closely to the show counterparts, for the same reason as above. If you're not going to use the actual characters' personalities, why use the characters at all? You'd be better off writing an original work. I just don't see the point in even making it a fanfic at that point. Not saying you can't be creative, just keep them in character.

3) Neutral I guess. I don't like it and have never been a shipper, but I don't really see anything wrong with it other than it's kind of annoying and it seems kind of stupid, but there's no harm in it.

1. I like OC's when they are well done. Mocha Delight and Rainy Day are the only two OC's I can safely say I really enjoy.

Shipping is actual discussion. Sex and relationships are a normal aspect of life like anything else. Why would one assume the ponies are asexual? Just because they can't show it since it's a children's cartoon show, means it's not open for speculation? "Does Twilight ever have any feelings for Rarity?" is just as legitimate of a question (in my opinion) as questions like "what does Twilight like to do when she's not reading?" or "What's Twilight's favorite flavor of tea?"

Writefag here, so I'm obviously biased, but...

1) Some are okay, as long as the writer doesn't go nuts with them. /co/ has been blessed with some great OC, while the crappy ones have mostly been ignored.

2) I prefer they remain true to the show for the most part. But a new and different take can be quite welcome, so long as it's justified within the story. Bonus points if you justify it by using stuff from canon in new clever ways.

3) I don't really care either way. Ship fics are not my thing, but I think people should be able to enjoy them if they want. So far the fandom is free of hysterical shippers who insist their pairings are canon (friggin' Zutarans) and until that happens, I say let the shippers have their secret butt fun.

4) Hate: I don't mind grimdark, so long as there's a point to it. But when a story is just about needlessly tormenting the characters because you can't think of anything else to do with them, then that bugs me.

Love: Stories that expand on the mythology, world-building, and high adventure aspects of the show that Lauren hints at all the time.

They do have some technology, but for some reason they also like to keep things simple.

In The Ticket Master we see Pinkie going into a photo booth, and on the first episode some electronic music is heard.

They also bake stuff on stoves that look like electric stoves. Also, although there are some lamps that are lit by fireflies or candles there have been instances of light being turned off and on with a switch.

It seems that ponies prefer to rely on their own efforts and their own magic rather than technology.

OCs are tricky - they're okay if done interestingly, but there are common traps to designing them, and if you fall into one of them your OC is going to suck balls.
Generally what I'd recommend is:

2) Make them themselves. Try to make the characters something you're not - base them on a concept or conceit that doesn't fit either who you are or who you wish you were. This avoids the issues with self-inserts, "fursonae", and the like.
3) Don't push it. If you create an OC, you've created it - posting about it a dozen times in one thread is a good way to make it hated, even if it's otherwise sound.

It was a lazy day.
Rainbow Dash tried her hardest to fight back against the yawn that forced it’s way through her body. The battle was in vain though, the warm sunlight tickled her nose as she unconsciously opened her mouth wide and soundlessly inhaled. The yawn solidly reinforcing the fact.
Rainbow Dash was bored
Sure it was a beautiful day out; warm, sunny, birds were singing, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. But everyone seemed to be busy today. Twilight was out on business in Canterlot. Applejack was busy working. Fluttershy babysitting her little woodland critters. Rarity was attending her boutique. And Pinkie Pie was off doing…Pinkie Pie related things.
And so that left Rainbow Dash. Alone and bored.
Usually being alone wasn’t so bad. Plenty of times before, she would’ve jumped at the chance to have some solitary time to herself. Just her and the open endless sky. But a pony could only do so many aerial tricks and maneuvers before it became tiresome and tedious. And so, when the repetition began to set in, she returned to her home in the clouds, desperate to find some other way to kill time.
So when she heard not one, but three massively loud cracks echo through the sunny sky, she figured she might as well investigate.
“What could possibly go wrong?” She grinned to herself as she took off, zooming through the skies of Equestria.

1) do you like OCs? Seeing as I've written one, I don't think I can answer this in an un-biased fashion, hah!
