I'm going to repost that Equestrian mythology post so it lasts a bit longer.

My guess? They weren't "born" at all.
When the great pony Titan, Equidos, took a mortal blow from the claws of his enemy, the Lord of Dragons, Celestia burst fully formed from the wound; his blood settled into her white hair, and dyed it pink. Equidos fought on, but his breath left him, his great lungs punctured by the first wound. So, deprived of life, his blood turned blue. Another blow was struck, and from this wound was born Luna, again in full adult form as her sister was, though she would forever be the younger.
Equidos would have faltered then, but his eyes fell upon his two beautiful daughters, and for the love of them he gave a last mighty kick; the great Dragon took a terrible, shattering blow that burst his chest open, and from the flesh and bone and scales that flew were born all dragonkind. The two enemies fell against each other, and in looking upon their children, they realized sorrow that they would never see them grow to the fullness of life. Their tears became the water; the last breath of Equidos became the wind, and the last of the Dragon became fire. Together in the embrace of Death, they became the land: the hard scales of the dragon became rock, his burning blood the magma below. The pony's body became the soil, and his fur the plants upon it.
The last sparks of the dragon's breath became the stars; the steam that rose from both the two Titans' blood became the clouds and mist. Gazing up into the darkness, Celestia and Luna, and the dragons alongside them, the firstborn of this new world, decided that its beauty should be lit as memorial to their fathers; and they took each Titan's heart from deep inside the land; the burning heart of the dragon became the sun, and the now-bloodless heart of Equidos became the moon. |
