"Even fearless enough to face your nightmares?" Big Macintosh asked her.
Applejack raised her hat up for a moment, winked at her big brother, and said, "If I'm lyin', I'm dyin'."
"Goodnight, Applejack," Big Macintosh laughed and pulled the hat down over her eyes. "If ya have any nightmares again, I'll be right here."
The two siblings closed their eyes, and Big Macintosh relaxed just enough for his body to get tired. Applejack, however, wasn't done with him just yet.
"Are you sure it's okay for me to keep your hat?" she asked.
"Yup," he nodded. "It'll remind you of who you are and what you want to be. As long as you wear that hat, you'll definitely grow up to be as strong and fearless as me. Besides, it looks better on you than it does on me anyway."
"You sure you don't need it for tomorrow?" Applejack offered.
"With my strength and you cheerin' me one," Big Macintosh assured her, "I'll do just fine."
It didn't take long before the two siblings fell asleep and morning came. Big Macintosh was shown the ropes around the farm, most of which he'd already learned from watching all the other ponies. He completed each task given to him with flawless execution and from that day forward, Sweet Apple Orchards had never been so productive. Big Macintosh developed new and more efficient ways of getting things done around the farm, all the while keeping an eye on Applejack. His little sister who believed in him when he didn't, practicing rope tricks and helping out where she could. It wasn't long before she grew up. She was just as stubborn as ever, but she wasn't the same filly who ran to her brother after a nightmare. She had even gone so far as to defeat Nightmare Moon herself, and Big Macintosh couldn't have been more proud. |
