[ The Subject of New Threads & The Generals ]

Please check the MLP:FiM Thread Locator and
Archive before going out and about and starting
a new thread. /co/ doesn't mind if we stay in
a general thread, but the biggest complaint I
see from them is that there are multiple threads.

A new general should not be made until the official
general is on the brink of autosaging into 404 hell,
or is at the image limit (150 pics). Once a new one
is established, it should be posted at the end of the
old general and everyone needs to herd themselves to
the next.

Obviously trolls & haters cannot be helped.

Now we craft a Se7en/Saw style MLP movie where a killer is loose in Phillydelphia, killing ponies and skinning their newly acquired cutie marks.
They are forced into little deathtraps that focus upon an aspect of their connection to the cutie mark, with a countdown that leads to a horrible death should they fail.
A pair of detective Ponies work to solve who the killer is when the mayors daughter disappears, and may be the next in the killer's test.

General thoughts on this episode:

1. Damn, that's a lotta rump... Loli rump for the most part too... Is Hasbro catching on?

2. This episode reminds me a bit of that K-On!! episode where Azusa and her two buddies hung out while the main characters were away on a trip

3. Rainbow Dash's headband makes her look even more like a dyke; if that's at all possible.

4. The moral seemed a little screwed up to me. If you exclude people from a group based on a lack of a physical characteristic; you're a bitch. But, it is acceptable to form friendships based nearly solely on a lack of said characteristic? Wuh?

5. This episode seems to imply that the ponies live in a pretty strict society employment wise (its like something out of The Giver). Your Cutie Mark determines what you will essentially be doing for your entire working life and this choice comes upon you at a fairly young age. Once you've got your mark, you're stuck. A pony with, say, a cookie Cutie Mark cannot hope to become a doctor or athlete, she's bound into a profession (which she cannot change) dictated by her mark. Scary...

From what I can tell from what's been given, pony magic comes "from within". Most unicorns can only manifest limited powers outside their "field", which so far has related directly to their cutie mark. So the cutie mark and unicorn magic are tied together, both being expressions of the pony's "soul".

Which makes me wonder if Luna and Celestia are as powerful as we make them out to be. Moving the sun and moon may be all they do. Luna could do lots of other things when she was NMM, but perhaps that was only with her armour? And that would support Celestia wearing her equipment to give her the power to move the moon in Luna's absence.

That would also explain why Celestia wasn't able to "cure" Luna with the elements. You needed a pony who could do all kinds of magic (Twilight) and the most Celestia could do is pull some bullshit with moon and stars.

Well, they have a legitimate reason in forming that club, i.e. trying to figure out their special skills together. Since they'll probably still receive teasing about their lack of cutie marks (it seems to be a big deal in pony society), peer support can be useful. Finally, they are seen partying with Twister despite her having a mark, so they presumably won't exclude her.

I think it had more to do with the fact that Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle went to bat for Applebloom without knowing her, and without be asked. Turning the tables on the two ponies that were tormenting her probably helped endear them as well. The lack of a mark was something they had in common. As Scootaloo pointed out, they were all being tormented by the stuck up girls. Friendship based on mutal ordeal is definitely a thing.

Yeah, it was a little odd. I wouldn't say it was a bad message to convey; just kind of nebulous and uninspired. On the bright side, maybe this means they're running out of steam in the whole "moral lesson of the day" department and will focus more on the general antics of the characters?

Or maybe ponies' minds are just wired differently, and they rarely find large changes in lifestyle appealing.

And keep in mind a lot of the marks are pretty damn vague and would allow for a whole variety of careers (though that generally does not seem to be the case for the Apple family).

I had to babysit my little sister, and often had to watch the original MLP movies with her before she would go to sleep.

I can watch this new series with my Daughter and think "Wow, this is much better than what I had as a kid."

Maybe if the show wasn't rated Y and run by Hasbro in the background. As it stands, a scene with rarity in this episode would have just involved her trying to show Applebloom how to put on makeup or perm her hair, soon after which Applebloom realizes she has no talent in the fashion industry. It would have been very predictable and I'm not sad they left it out.

And even then there would have been some kind of retarded parent/feminist backlash about how they shouldn't teach little girls to put on makeup and fuss over their looks at such a young age.

But yes, if the show weren't so constricted by these sorts of worries, Rarity would probably just tell her that she's a weird little country girl who should focus on something else.
