I just noticed a shit ton of threads about it, which seemed odd since it's My Little Pony of all things, so I've been asking what the appeal is to figure out what the big deal is and if it's worth checking out. That's perhaps one of the major gists that forces me to enjoy this show. While the characters do fall under the shallow dimness of stereotypical cliches, some have actually branched out immediately in just a span of two episodes. Namely Applejack and Rarity. Rarity having set aside her queenly personality to boot a manticore straight in the face, while Applejack actually appears to be one of the more down-to-earth ponies than the stalwart leader recklessly leading everybody on; quite like Twilight Sparkle. Fluttershy too is showing a little more than just being the shy, quasi-introvert character. The epiphany of episode two also gave a lot of life into Twilight's character - though I can't really see where they're going with her. Her reaction to friendship initially was simply humorous, perhaps the funniest in the show so far. But now that she actually enjoys friendship, I wonder what kind of turn it'll take for her reactions to some of the other characters. My guess being the flexible booksmart, but she's shown a bit too much depth to fall under such a vague category.

I wonder how the pony nobility will react to whoever Twilight does take? See, Rarity would be ok, but taking anyone else will be taken amiss, I reckon. See, it's the unicorn ponies who are the upper class of pony society. You can look back at the beginning of the first episode, when Twilight's in Canterlot, and you'll notice that all the ponies there are unicorns. Rarity later describes it as a city of art and culture, and the two unicorns in the main cast are the Princess' personal assistant and the high fashion designer. Unicorns are basically the nobility.

But Twilight isn't likely to be aware of pony social segregation, so she might take anyone! And the upper crust of ponydom has a two in three chance of being exposed to the bluntness of Rainbow Dash, the honesty of Applejack or... Pinkie Pie. Which may well precipitate some changes in how pony society works. Or perhaps Princess Luna is going as well, and the invitation is in hopes that Twilight's guest will take some heat off her.

Either way, Celestia is likely to be JUST AS PLANNED

I don't know, Homestuck guys haven't really been that bad lately. There were a couple of rough spots where it was kinda annoying to see frontpage filled with grey Homestuck folks, but lately? They have managed to keep it to one thread and haven't been much of a trouble. Except for Baby Ember. Baby Ember basically talked like a normal pony, and had a hilarious scene in the pilot where she asked if she could be a pegasus or unicorn when she grew up and was basically told 'nope.' Amusingly, this is also the only reference to baby ponies aging at all.
